Clickbait was a fad grown from a nascent social media landscape, born of people trying out new ways of communication. It worked for a bit, and now it works less. If none of the above reasons convinced you, there’s this one simple aesthetic reason: clickbait sounds old and lame.

According to Wikipedia, clickbait is a term for “web content that is aimed at generating online advertising revenue, especially at the expense of quality or accuracy, relying on sensationalist headlines or eye-catching thumbnail pictures to attract click-throughs and to encourage forwarding of the material over online social networks.” Clickbait definition is - something (such as a headline) designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest.
